The Facebook News Partnership team is coming together. Today, Erika Masonhall spilled the news – via Facebook, of course – that she would be laving NBCNews to join Facebook.

Masonhall has been with NBC News since 2011 when she joined as Director, Communications. Prior to that she was Press Secretary, and before that Deputy Press Secretary, for Sen. Joseph Lieberman.

The News Partnership concept is a bit controversial within media circles as it appears to be more of a publicity/sales effort to attract media partnership, rather than an effort to help publishers work with Facebook to their benefit. The team is being run by former CNN anchor Campbell Brown, who since leaving CNN, has been a controversial voice in education reform, arguing against teacher tenure.

Here is Masonhall’s announcement:

A bit of personal news: I’m joining Facebook next month to help lead strategic communications for the News Partnerships team based in New York. Facebook plays a significant role in the way people around the world get and share information, and I couldn’t be more excited to work with Campbell Brown and this terrific team dedicated to helping news organizations expand the reach of good journalism.

NBC News has been home to me for six years and although it’s bittersweet to leave, I’m incredibly grateful for my colleagues, mentors, and friends in the extended peacock family.
